The set takes its name from the "mythical beast" that first appeared on the cover of Tarkus, and the material is divided between "the classic recordings" and new recordings by the recently reunited group. ELP was at its best when it combined Emerson and Palmer's over-the-top playing with simple pop melodies: The synth solo erupts from Lake's /5(28).

comment: all four cd's, outerbox and booklet. all cd's- full gloss discs, used- like new. bookletis in excellent condition. outerbox has some wear on the corners, one split on the upper left corner- otherwise - good, acceptable/5(32).

Not a bad thing; Emerson is a wizard at the keyboards and obviously brought an impressive breadth of classical and jazz knowledge with him. And Palmer and Lake are no slouches; they did a good job keeping up with Emerson/5(32).

Emerson, Lake & Palmer's eponymous LP was only a rehearsal. It hit hard because of the novelty of the act (allegedly the first supergroup in rock history), but felt more like a collection of individual efforts and ideas than a collective work. All doubts were dissipated by the release of Tarkus in
