Marc Almond signed to Virgin Records in and recorded two albums for that label (Stories of Johnny and Mother Fist and Her Five Daughters). He also released several singles and EPs filled with non-LP material. This first in a series of two CDs attempted to collect these non-album tracks and put them together for Marc Almond fans.6/.

Without a doubt, this is Marc Almond's most commercial and accessible album of (mainly) original material. It is far more focused than most of his solo material; the tempo doesn't really drop at all, and while much of the subject matter remains rather sleazy (as is to be expected with Almond), it is a most enjoyable listen; its appeal doesn't fade quickly as can be the case with much of his /5(10).

Mar 20,  · Even when Soft Cell were at their commercial peak, it was obvious that Marc Almond was not yer common or garden pop star, and following his ever fascinating solo career has confirmed that. "Stories of Johnny" is that precious thing, a song that wraps its despair in the softest, subtlest of melodies, sweeping the listener with it towards eternity. Published/5(1).
