On Every Street finds those influences complementing the late-night melancholy that's always been Dire Straits' specialty. Instead of Sting singing "I Want My MTV," fans got Hillbillies pedal steel player Paul Franklin adding to the high-lonesome sound of the quite infectious title track and the epic "Planet of New Orleans," along with /5().

It took Mark Knopfler more than six years to craft a followup to Dire Straits' international chart-topper, Brothers In Arms, but though On Every Street sold in the expected multi-millions worldwide on the back of the band's renown and a year-long tour, it was a disappointment. Knopfler remained a gifted guitar player with tastes in folk ("Iron Hand"), blues ("Fade To Black"), and rockabilly.

Dire Straits were over by Their album Brothers in Arms had sold by the millions, and was a kind of blessing and a curse for the band, as it had some great songs but was let down by the unnecessarily slick over the top production. Mark Knopfler owes his entire career to JJ Cale, and he knows that. Having said that his distinct guitar playing is instantly recognizable, and as a band.

"Heavy Fuel" is a song by British rock band Dire Straits from its album On Every Street. The song was also released as a single and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the United States, making it the band's second song to do so. ("Money for Nothing" was its first.)In "Heavy Fuel," Mark Knopfler ironically extols the virtues of such vices as cigarettes Label: Vertigo, Warner Bros.
